Star Shelter Celebrates Hari Raya with Zonta Club of Singapore
To celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year, the Zonta Club of Singapore once again, organised a Movie and Dinner (or party) Night on 23 June 2017 for the residents of the Star Shelter. The residents were treated to a night of fun games, scrumptious food, traditional Malay folk songs and dance, and movie.
The celebration started with a wonderful Malay dance performance by the children from Star Shelter and was followed by a Hari Raya themed pop trivia quiz and games. Everyone listened attentively and jumped excitedly to answer the trivia quiz. Prizes donated by the Zonta were presented to the very happy winners of the quiz. Delicious catered Malay dishes such as rending and sayur lodeh, was enhanced by the home-made chicken curry and stir fried vegetables that were specially prepared by two residents who were great cooks.
As everyone enjoyed the delectable dinner, the residents showcased their talents by presenting various song and dance performances. Fuelled by the festive atmosphere, a young 11-year-old resident decided to spontaneously belt out an inspirational song for everyone.
All eyes were glued to the screen while the movie Moana, a story about a young lady who sailed out on a daring adventure to save her land and people, was shown that night. The event was capped off with the distribution of gifts lovingly prepared by the members of the Zonta Club of Singapore.
It was the fun-filled night that left the residents and staff talking about it for days. We’re already looking forward to our next celebration!
