Volunteering

In the Spirit of Giving this December

“Just volunteering itself is already so rewarding, you don’t need to prepare any special gifts for us,” said Shirley Ong, our IT Hub volunteer, while preparing for class. Shirley is one of the recipients of the NCSS 10-Year Long Service Award for her contributions to SCWO’s IT Hub. Our volunteers have always been so humble and generous, never expecting anything in return. As the year comes to an end, SCWO would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers for their sincere dedication throughout the year.

New2U Volunteer Coordinator and 15-Year Long Service Awardee, Tan Joon Lin speaking about her experience with SCWO

On 3rd December 2016, SCWO hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Lunch. SCWO’s President Dr June Goh welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for their contributions. We had a very special surprise for those that assisted in the New2U Early Christmas Bazaar in November. To thank them for their hard work that made the Bazaar a resounding success, they were presented with hampers. The programme then followed with the presentation of the NCSS Long Service Awards to volunteers who have reached their 5th, 10th and 15th-Year mark with SCWO! SCWO had a total of 20 Long Service Awardees this year, a tremendous increase from the previous year.

After the sumptuous lunch, we led a human bingo game for volunteers to get to know one another better. The first 10 to finish this game wins a prize! The volunteers mingled excitedly to find out things like who wears shoe size 8, is a Capricorn (born in January!), can speak more than 4 languages, and can sing! The first one to complete the game was Gloria Chee, one of our New2U Tuesday volunteers. After the game, Christmas carols like Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Feliz Navidad were sung. To continue with the festivities and fun in the Christmas spirit, the Friday New2U Volunteer Coordinator, the lovely Sylvia Sumasto, made everyone stand up to form a conga line during the singing of Jingle Bells – and what an energetic conga line it was!

We at SCWO sincerely thank all our volunteers for their hard work, love and dedication over the past years. We truly value you and appreciate your enthusiasm and your continued commitment.
