MSC Talk – Understanding Legal Awareness for Women Across Life’s Stages

Navigating our legal rights at different stages of life as a woman can raise important questions, particularly regarding marriage, property, and divorce.

Join us at our upcoming MSC Talk, where Ms. Thian Wen Yi, an esteemed expert in family law, will explore essential topics, including what to know before getting married—such as pre-nuptial agreements, their benefits, and enforceability. She will also discuss legal rights within marriage, including tax benefits, property rights, and issues surrounding separation and divorce. Additionally, the talk will cover recent updates on court advisories for divorcing couples with hopes for reconciliation.

Ms Thian Wen Yi is a partner at Harry Elias Partnership, under the family and Divorce Practice Group. She has acted as lead counsel in many contentious disputes over custody, care and control, access, maintenance, and division of matrimonial assets. Ms Thian was named as a Recommended practitioner in the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions of Doyles Guide’s Singapore Family and Divorce Leading Lawyers. She was also listed in the 2021 edition of Singapore’s 18 most influential lawyers aged 40 and under by Singapore Business Review and was recognised as Future Star in the 2024 edition of Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific.

As a member of the Singapore Association of Women Lawyers, Ms.Thian volunteers at the legal clinics where she gives free legal advice to women who are unable to afford a lawyer. She also provides pro bono legal services for needy persons under the auspices of Law Society’s Ad Hoc Pro Bono Referral Scheme and Legal Aid Bureau’s panel of assigned solicitors.
