Member Spotlight: University Women’s Association Singapore
University Women’s Association (Singapore) or UWAS, was inaugurated in August 1996 and is a member of SCWO. UWAS is also part of the National Federation of Associations (NFA) of the Graduate Women International (GWI) HQ in Geneva and has members in more than 60 countries worldwide. UWAS’s mission is to improve the status of women and girls; to promote lifelong education and to enable graduate women to use their expertise to effect change through education. Formed in 1974, the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International) is a global organisation that has been promoting female competency and diversity throughout the maritime sector (an industry notoriously known for being male dominated!). WISTA International has achieved amazing growth, both in numbers and influence, in the past 45 years. There are currently 47 national chapters with over 3,000 members worldwide. Presidents’ Forum October 2019
SCWO held its bi-annual Presidents’ Forum on 19th October 2019, attended by more than 40 member organisations. The Forum started with a Welcome Address from SCWO’s President, Dr June Goh. She highlighted some of the SCWO’s exciting programmes and developments in 2019 – this included the Seeds of Change fund that supports women’s organisations to pilot or scale up women’s development programmes, the SCWO Insights Series which brings together women leaders and organisations from different sectors for meaningful dialogue on women’s issues, and the Tea time Chats supported by MSF’s Office of Women’s Development, and hosted by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the MSF, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, where member…
