SCWO was set up in March 1980 and is the national coordinating body of women’s organisations in Singapore. It seeks to unite the various women’s organisations, clubs, committees, groups and women leaders together, working in accordance with its various aims and objectives. It also serves to coordinate these associations into a national movement and to act on their behalf in matters for which it is authorised by its members. It seeks to promote the ideals of “Equal Space, Equal Voice and Equal Worth” for women in Singapore.

SCWO is registered as a society. It is also a registered charity with effect from 15 March 2021 and has been accorded IPC status on 3 May 2021.

SCWO’s IPC status has been renewed until 2 April 2027. SCWO has its constitution as governing instrument.
