The Future Garden for Singapore Women

30 September 2022 – National Parks Board (NParks), in partnership with SCWO and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) organised the first Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the future Garden for SG Women. Many member organisations of SCWO and Board Members were invited to participate in this FGD, alongside several non-profit and private organisations.

To recognise the central role of women in our society and nation, PM Lee announced in September 2020 that a dedicated garden will be created at Dhoby Ghaut Green. This dedicated public space was one of the proposals made by SCWO to dedicate a public space to the women of Singapore. This garden will honour and celebrate the pioneering spirit and the contributions of Singapore women.

The session kicked off with a sharing by NParks on the overall plans to develop the areas surrounding Dhoby Ghaut Green as part of the rejuvenation plan for that part of Orchard Road. With this background information, participants are encouraged to give valuable suggestions & feedback on how the Garden can be designed to celebrate women in Singapore. Minister of State for Home Affairs and Social and Family Development, Ms Sun Xueling was invited to open the session. Ms Sun warmly welcomed everyone and took part in the FGD. The participants were split into two groups and the discussions were facilitated by ThinkPlace. After a robust brainstorming and sharing of views and ideas, each group presented a summary of their conversations. Following this, more FGDs with other groups will be conducted to gather more ideas to develop the future Garden for SG Women. SCWO is honoured to be a part of this meaningful project and we look forward to a beautiful space that truly honours and celebrates the women in Singapore.
